Celebrating Summer Vacation

When the school year comes to an end and summer vacation has begun, most children are beside themselves with excitement. They celebrate the end of the year in school and sometimes even on the bus (poor drivers), but what do they do to celebrate when they get home?Oftentimes, they get straight to sitting on their behinds or planning for twelve of their closest friends to come butcher the tranquility of your home (at least as much of that as you have been able to hang on to during the school year). So, why not plan a celebration instead? It is a good way to get some of the extra excitement and energy out while getting ready for vacation.
One great way to kick off summer vacation is by buying some outdoor toys and putting them to good use. Make some easy snacks. Make sure you have some drinks. Invite a friend or two over and fill up the yard with bubbles, squirt guns, maybe a slip 'n' slide, volleyball or badminton and turn on some of your kid's favorite music. Then, just let them have fun. Make sure they are wearing play clothes and do not worry about the mess until later.
You may want to take your kids to the beach to celebrate the start of summer vacation. However, to make it a celebration, you have to be clearly celebrating. Maybe bring along a game you would not normally bring. Maybe plan for a special dinner and dessert near the beach when you are finished for the day. You can bring along anything that is suitable for the beach and is reminiscent of celebration. Do not forget to bring bubbles too.
If your kids are older, you may want to do something a little less "childish" with them to celebrate summer vacation. A trip to a local amusement or water park can be fun for people of all ages. To make this a celebration, all you have to do is show up and pay for it.
A celebration of summer vacation should be done soon after school is out. If you can't do it the first day, try for the first week. This will get them excited for the rest of their vacation.
